Job Summary
Responsible for developing and managing a corporate Traffic infrastructure relating to the strategic inbound and outbound movement of goods and materials.
Job Responsibilities
- Develop and lead strategic project and process improvement initiatives. Evaluate and implement traffic infrastructure improvements and develop long term traffic planning strategies to merge corporate traffic functions worldwide. Manage and optimize broker networks to provide maximum strategic benefit to customers and Apotex.
- Responsible for the performance and management of all Traffic staff. Apply sound communication and motivational techniques in supervising, counselling, coaching, and disciplining subordinates. Conduct performance reviews with direct reports. Implement training and development programs in conjunction with Human Resources and the Logistics training group. Review and update accountability statements, performance measures and training plans.
- Control and direct all transportation for Apotex. Ensure that all service providers demonstrate and provide Apotex with the best routing infrastructure so that the company is positioned to capitalize on each marketing advantage that is presented. Evaluate and negotiate traffic agreements and rates. Direct and supervise the inbound/outbound process to ensure compliance with international and customs regulations.
- Establish and maintain a customer service program for wholesale and international customers. Establish customer service performance standards for all customers. Maintain good customer relations with all internal and external clients.
- Develop and manage an annual operating budget for the Traffic department. Negotiate supplier contracts and continually evaluate for cost savings. Develop activity based costing analyses for the traffic functions.
- Hold management and staff meetings to effectively communicate company directives, goals, policies and performance standards. Interact with suppliers, senior management, employees and customers in a professional manner.
- Ensure systems are developed to maximize the flow of information for Traffic. Ensure that system infrastructure is maintained and upgraded as required. Establish critical success factors for all system performance.
- Ensure that all work is completed in full compliance with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), Work Instructions (WI), Safe Work Practices (SWP), Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG), IATA and all other compliance regulations.
- Direct established safety programs to ensure the safety of all personnel, equipment and property. Oversee monthly safety meetings and ensure that inspections are completed and issues addressed. Ensure compliance with all established safety standards and regulations.
- Ensure the accurate and timely preparation, processing, distribution and retention of all necessary reports and records regarding Traffic operations.
- Performs all work in support of our Corporate Values of Pride, Accountability, Integrity and Diligence.
- Performs all work in accordance with all established regulatory and compliance and safety requirements.
- All other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements
- Post secondary education.
- CITP designation an asset.
- Demonstrated experience in Word, Excel, Powerpoint.
- SAP software experience an asset.
- Experience in project management techniques and software.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (verbal, written and presentation).
- Strong negotiation skills.
- Creative problem solver with experience in costing/process analysis.
- Ability to interact with all levels of the organization, external suppliers, and customers in a professional, objective manner.
- 5-7 years in a Freight Forwarding or Customs environment.
- Excellent knowledge of INCO terms, AMPs, FDA and DEA terms and requirements.
- Superior team building skills with experience in large shipping operations coordinating several shipping points world wide.
